Vukovar

Reported by Dipavajan Renner

Another inspiring day in Croatia! After a long drive the day before we arrived in Vukovar and visited schools in the neighborhood, as in Vukovar the schools where closed due to special celebrations...

…our first steps in the morning...

...naši prvi koraci ujutro...

…first we went to the "Zrinskog" Primary School in Nuštar. The kids were lined up and ready...

...prvo smo otišli u osnovnu školu "Zrinski" u Nuštru. Djeca su spremno čekala poredana u liniji...

...while the meeting went on, a painting was in process...

...za vrijeme dočeka djeca su crtala...

...Peace in our hearts...

...Mir u našim srcima...

...almost done...

...skoro gotovo...

...and the stamps in a double pack...

...dvostruko štambiljanje...

...here is the result!

...a evo i rezultata crtanja!

...what is a meeting without running - especially on such a beautiful day!

...we visited some kids in their class rooms...

...posjetili smo i djecu u njihovim učionicama...

Thank you Nuštar for the nice welcome!

Hvala Nuštru na lijepom dočeku!

...before the second school more international runners arrived and joined in...

...the kids in Mirkovci were ready for us!

...nice performances...

...lijep nastup...

...many enthusiastic runners...

...puno entuzijastičnih trkača...

What a happy meeting! Thank you, Mirkovci!

Kakav veseo susret! Hvala Mirkovci!

Finally we arrived in Vukovar. Vukovar is like a sad memory from the past - but now it completely changed its face and opened a new chapter in history.

You can still see reminders of the war in the 90's, but the city is blossoming and spreads newness and a feeling of hope and goodwill...

Možemo još uvijek vidjeti podsjetnike na rat 90-ih, ali grad cvijeta i širi novitet i osjećaj nade i dobre volje...

...a last tidy - up...

...napokon priprema...

Our international runners team followed an invitation of Mr. Ivo Josipović, the President of Croatia, to participate in special celebrations here in Vukovar.

Naš internacionalni tim trkača prihvatio je pozivnicu gosp. Ive Josipovića, predsjednika Republike Hrvatske, da sudjelujemo u posebnoj svečanosti dana grada Vukovara.

The President of Croatia gave us a warm welcome...

Predsjednik Hrvatske priredio nam je toplu dobrodošlicu...

Predsjednik je primio goruću baklju mira i dao je vrlo inspirativan govor o miru i prijateljstvu...

…he passed the torch on to Mr. Zeljko Sabo, the Mayor of Vukovar...

...predao je baklju gosp. Željku Sabi, gradonačelniku Vukovara...
